Herb Society's complete Medicinal Herbal Hb (Natural Care)
If you want to learn how to make your own tinctures, poultices or know when to harvest herbs or would like to know where herbal knowledge came from in our World's history, then this book is for you!  The pictures of each herb in powder, dried or essential oil form are very helpful and she gives specific directions on how, why and when herbs should be used!  Priceless!

Dr. Mom's Healthy Living by Sandra Livingston Ellis
Besides the fact that my maiden name is Ellis, I absolutely love this book because it really spoke to me at a time when I was an invalid in bed with strep throat and knew that things could be better.

Jillian Michaels, Master Your Metabolism
I actually haven't read this book but have heard some great things about it!  I was especially interested to hear about her strategy of refraining from eating ANY carbohydrates at night to prevent insulin from being in the body when your sleeping.  Very interesting considering I have a little diabetic daughter.

The Fast Track Detox Diet by Ann Louise Gittleman, Ph.D, C.N.S.
Well, it might sound easy, but this diet is expensive, intense and worth it!  She lays out an 11 day strict diet with a killer 36 hour fast at the end.  I've heard of a lot of food, tea, juice cleanses but this one seemed to make the most sense.  I did feel very good after doing this diet (it's the first real "diet" that I've ever tried) and I learned some new recipes and ideas from doing it.

Three Day Cleansing Program by Dr. John R. Christopher
Dr. John Christopher is a pioneer of holistic health using herbs and food.  He started the School of Natural Healing in Springville, Ut back in the 1950's.  This is a little book but has a lot of basic information using herbs and food to heal and nourish the body.

Prescription for Nutritional Healing by Phyllis Balch, C.N.C.
Great resource for any malady, disease or question!

Curing The Incurables by Dr. John R. Christopher
Study and learn!  If you have an autoimmune disease that is taking over your life, try this book.  It's intense and involved.  I've never actually tried these strategies but have heard good things from some.  Pray on this one.

All New Square Foot Gardening Cookbook by Mel Bartholomew
I haven't read this book, but it looks awesome!

Thanks for visiting my blog!  My name is Elizabeth and this blog will act as a journal entry of ideas and experiences that I have used to bring health and healing to my family.  Let me tell you how I came to want better health for myself and my family.  In 2003, I was feeling very fatigued, frustrated and sick.  I finally visited my internist and after many blood tests and appointments, my doctor informed me that I had lupus and hypothyroidism.  As a young wife and Mommy of 3 small children I felt devastated and hopeless and I didn't know what to do.  In order to be a studious patient, I decided to follow the medical journeys and blogs of other people with lupus and to also understand the medicines that my doctor would be prescribing for me.  I remember viewing the rapid downward spiral of a man who had lupus.  It was very depressing.  It became apparent that I was doomed to a slow, painful life/death.  This could not be!  I had little children and a husband who needed me!  I

What's the point

Why try?  What's the point?  We're all going to die at some time, why try so hard? We live in THE most amazing time in history.  We have every resource for health and happiness at our dispense and yet the amount of living dead people walking around is astounding.  We are not using our agency to take advantage of these blessings.  My new lifestyle is very doable and enjoyable.  The foods that I eat are a "win-win" because they're delicious and will promote lifelong health.  Lifelong health means you feel energetic, can think clearly and have strength to fulfill life's rigorous responsibilities.  For me, it doesn't make sense to throw health away because of narrow minded taste requirements.  Open your mind and LIVE!
